Futuristic Beats:
Warner Bros. Publications Releases Jungle/Drum ‘n’ Bass
by World’s Fastest Drummer Johnny Rabb

04/02

MIAMI — One of the hottest trends in music among today’s recording artists and DJs is the fast-paced (140-180 beats per minute) electronic style known as "jungle" or "drum ‘n’ bass." Now, drummers can discover how to simulate these high-energy electronic sounds on an acoustic drum set in Jungle/Drum ‘n’ Bass, a new book/two-CD package from Warner Bros. Publications.

Written by Johnny Rabb, who holds the Guinness Record as the World’s Fastest Drummer, Jungle/Drum ‘n’ Bass presents a complete guide to this futuristic genre of drumming. The book covers everything from properly setting up drum set equipment for obtaining electronic-like sounds, to the use of samplers and sampling CDs for writing and recording jungle/drum ‘n’ bass grooves.

Loaded with exercises, transcriptions, and sound applications, Jungle/Drum ‘n’ Bass will introduce drummers to an exciting new world of fast-tempo grooves, loops, and sounds that they can create, using mainly bass drums, snare drums, and hi-hat/ride cymbals. The book is accompanied by two CDs, which include examples from each chapter, as well as seven original play-along groove loops.

"Warner Bros. Publications is proud to be on the cutting-edge of new musical genres and styles," said Ray Brych, percussion product line manager for Warner Bros. Publications. "Jungle/Drum ‘n’ Bass helps drummers explore one of today’s hottest trends, and gives them all the elements for producing this high-energy sound."

A thorough explanation of jungle/drum ‘n’ bass music and how it evolved is included in Rabb’s informative introduction to the book. Also presented in the introductory chapter is an interview conducted by Rabb with Clyde Stubblefield, a pioneer of funk-style drumming who is credited with contributing to the jungle/drum ‘n’ bass sound.

Rabb’s attainment of the Guinness World Record for World’s Fastest Drummer was featured on a VH-1 television show called Rock & Roll Record Breakers. He won the Guinness title by playing 1071 single strokes in 60 seconds, breaking the previous world record of 1026.

Rabb’s recently self-released jungle/drum ‘n’ bass solo CD entitled Acoustic Machine contains many patterns and grooves featured in the Jungle/Drum ‘n’ Bass book. His original music features the futuristic sounds and grooves common to jungle/drum 'n' bass, and performed on the acoustic drum set. Samples of the CD are included in play-along form on the CD accompanying the Jungle/Drum ‘n’ Bass book.

Johnny Rabb continues to perform and record with the Techno Trio, an acoustic/electronic project that pushes the envelope of new music sounds.

Jungle/Drum ‘n’ Bass is priced at $24.95 suggested retail for the book and two accompanying CDs.
