MIAMI, Fla. -- Drum sensation Russ Miller has put his famous "crash course" system on video in an exciting new production from Warner Bros. Publications. The 120-minute Drum Set Crash Course video offers an easy-to-follow visual representation of the material that Miller covered in his highly-acclaimed 1997 book of the same title, as well as in his upcoming book Transitions.
"Simply put, this is one of the most informative demonstrations of drumming ever presented," said Ray Brych, percussion manager at Warner Bros. Publications. "In the video, Russ covers everything from developing 2-limb independence to advanced 4-limb independence as well as how to master more than 18 different styles of music, including Rock, Jazz, R&B, Swing, Be-Bop, Country, Afro-Cuban, Funk, Hip-Hop, Second Line Grooves, Sambas, and Contemporary Fusion. Warner Bros. Publications is very proud to have produced this video. We’re confident it will rank as a major milestone in drumming education."
A very comprehensive all-in-one drum set learning system, the video delves into the inner workings of each of the 18 styles that it covers. For example, Miller explores the basic grooves, variations, fills and solo development needed for each style. In the video, the world-famous drummer shares his extensive knowledge of topics like the importance of playing with dynamics, applying different time feels, and developing multi-limb independence. Miller also discusses advanced concepts of every music style, and offers brief histories of each style covered in the video.
Of course, Miller does more than "just talk" in this entertaining and informative video. He gives lively playing demonstrations and performances of all lesson points. An all-star band joins Miller in his performances, creating a memorable and inspirational experience for aspiring drummers. Throughout the video, Miller offers helpful hints on how to play each style more convincingly.
In addition to playing "authentic" versions of the covered music styles, Miller demonstrates "casual" versions of many styles for use in performances at weddings and corporate parties. There is also a "play along" package available for student practice. This package features two versions of the songs in the video: one with Miller playing, and another with no drum parts, so students can play along. "The video and play-along material, in addition to Russ’s two books, offer a complete curriculum for drum set studies that can be used by instructors and students," said Brych. "Taken by itself, the video is also great as a reference tool for the professional and past-time drummer, as well as anyone who’s interested in drumming."
Universally regarded as one of the world’s top touring and session drummers, Miller has performed on more than 100 albums and dozens of international movie and TV soundtracks. He has toured frequently with many international superstars, including Ray Charles, George Benson, The Fifth Dimension, Slash and Jim Brickman. The author of three books published by Warner Bros. Publications, he is also widely acclaimed for his ability to educate others about the art of drumming. The Drum Set Crash Course video is the latest in his long list of stellar accomplishments.
The Drum Set Crash Course retails for $29.95
