D'Addario News:

D'Addario sadly mourns the losses of two longtime Performing Artists, legends, and good friends. "Mister Guitar," Chet Atkins, who passed away on June 30, had used D'Addario strings for many years, and is known as one of the guitar world's great pickers and innovators. He amassed 14 Grammy awards for his albums, a feat matched by only one other Country performer.

Grammy-winner John Hartford, who passed away on June 4, had been hailed as one of Bluegrass music's top fiddle players, and kept playing until the end, long after his illness would have put most men into bed. Such was his love of music. These two amazing musicians will be sorely missed, and we offer our condolences to their families, and thank them for allowing us to be a part of their music. For more information, visit www.johnhartford.com and www.misterguitar.com

Praise for D'Addario's new EXP Coated Acoustic strings keeps rolling in from the road. Here's a sampling of artists currently using these groundbreaking strings - Bob Dylan, Steven Stills, Suzanne Vega, Dave Matthews, Bruce Springsteen, John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Robert Cray, Lucinda Williams, Martin Simpson, and Bill Frisell.

Guitarist Jeff Pevar and his band CPR (featuring David Crosby & James Raymond) release Just Like Gravity on Gold Circle Records. Just Like Gravity is a gorgeous record that should not be missed!

Congratulations go out to Vince Gill who recently received the Country Weekly Career Achievement Award at the TNN & CMT Country Music Awards.

Roy Book Binder is currently on the road hitting the festival circuit. Look for Roy's new CD, Singer-Songwriter-BLUESMAN, due for release in August. The CD features all original songs, recorded solo, just Roy and his guitar.

The word busy doesn't even come close to describing in-demand session guitarist David Grissom. In addition to laying down tracks in Nashville with artists such as John Anderson, Andy Griggs, Scott Miller, Charlie Robison, Pam Tillis, Mindy McCready, Susan Ashton, Tommy Shane Steiner, Blackhawk, and Lee Ann Womack, David will be touring this month with Jerry Jeff Walker, is hosting clinics at the National Guitar Workshop, and is developing an instructional book for Cherry Lane Music Publishing.

Bluegrass artist Ralph Stanley recently received a Platinum award for his contributions to the soundtrack to the Coen brothers film Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? Congratulations Ralph!

Kelly Joe Phelps releases his long-awaited new record Sky Like A Broken Clock on Rykodisc. For this recording, Kelly Joe has enlisted a full band that includes the phenomenal talents of Larry Taylor (bassist for Tom Waits, ex-Canned Heat) on string bass and Billy Conway (from Boston's cult heroes Morphine) on drums and percussion. All 10 tracks on this groundbreaking record were written by Kelly Joe and were recorded live with no overdubs. For more info, check out www.kellyjoephelps.com

Bryan Beller, bassist for Mike Keneally and Beer For Dolphins, just finished up a tour of the U.S. in support of their latest record, Dancing (Exowax). Keneally and the Dolphins packed houses all along the way, including two gigs at one of New York City's most prestigious venues, The Bottom Line. Beller uses D'Addario Prisms. "Prisms really help to bring out the subtleties of some of the high-end transients in my sound, which is important during quiet passages, and especially key when using effects." Beller also recorded Dancing with Prisms exclusively. He plans to continue touring with Keneally later in the year.

Bassist Carlos Del Puerto is touring this month in Finland & Sweden leading a group called Carlos del Puerto e Impacto Cubano. The band will be performing at the Imatra Big Band Festival, Kuopio Wine Festival, Copacabana Salsa Club, Pori Jazz Festival, and the Stockholm Jazz Festival.

Mat Gurman releases his third Starlicks instructional video, entitled 50 Licks for Blues Guitar.

Grammy-winner (and seven-time nominee) Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown releases Back To Bogalusa on Blue Thumb Records. Not one to be pigeonholed, the 77-year-old Brown has stubbornly avoided labels while demonstrating his command of blues, jazz, Cajun, country, and swing. On his new release, Brown focuses on the rich musical sounds of his beloved Louisiana. For more info, please visit www.bluethumb.com

Suzanne Vega is currently on tour in Europe. Reports from the road indicate that Ms. Vega is extremely happy with D'Addario EXP acoustic strings.

Folk artist and acoustic wizard Don Conoscenti releases his first instructional video, entitled Capo Abuse and Guitar Techniques. Highly regarded in the acoustic music community for his prowess on guitar, Conoscenti's expertise with capos has inspired performers seeking an alternative to opening tuning. His techniques offer the benefits of open tuning while allowing the guitar to remain in straight tuning. For more info, check out www.donconoscenti.com.

Bassist Eric Hochberg has been busy with a number of projects. Eric recently opened for Bill Bruford's Earthworks with the Paul Wertico Trio. He also finished work on a new album from world musician Willie Schwarz for EFA Clearspot Records and completed a live recording at Chicago's famed Green Mill nightclub for Saxophonist Frank Catalano's new Delmark Records album.

Michelle Malone and her band The Peeps Show are currently on tour in support of her 7th release Hello Out There (SBS Records). For more info, please visit www.michellemalone.com.

Violinist Darol Anger is currently in the studio with Mike Marshall working on a Duo record to be released at the end of this year on Compass Records. Darol recently performed at Telluride with Comotion and Alison Brown.

Classical News:

Classical guitarist Richard Jacobowski is co-directing two classical guitar festivals in Italy. The first in Orvieto is entitled the Campo Musicale Chitarristico. D'Addario is proud to be an official sponsor of this event. The second, the Ida Presti Festival of Guitar, is in Catania (Sicily). Both of these festivals feature master classes, concerts and competitions. In addition to being the co-director of these festivals, Richard will also teach and perform solo recitals.

The Amadeus Guitar Duo, featuring Dale Kavanagh and Thomas Kirchhoff are currently on tour in Europe. The duo, who have been playing together since 1991, are acknowledged for their virtuoso performances and their highly sensitive creative ability in musical phrasing and articulation.

International concert guitarist Michael Laucke is presently in the recording studio, one week away from an international "CD-Extra" release. This CD-Extra, his 18th CD to date, is a music CD of his latest flamenco/pop works, together with his new video-clip, which can be viewed when inserted into computers. The video is slated for rotation on MusiMax, MuchMusic, Bravo, and other French TV networks

British Guitarist Jason Carter will be touring Europe and the Middle East this month. He will be playing Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Holland, Denmark and the UK. The release of his new CD Elements is getting great reviews worldwide.

Planet Waves News:

What the Pros are saying about Planet Waves:

"I've been using the Planet Waves cables in both live and studio situations and I'm really enjoying the sound. I prefer the Planet Waves cables for overall tonal spectrum response, construction and feel. The double-insulated/double-shielded design provides a pure signal that eliminates hum. The compression springs makes a solid contact at the instrument jack, and the colored O-rings are very helpful for recalling my setup." - Bassist Mark Egan

"As loud as it is in my studio, it's nice to have something quiet for a change. Planet Waves cables equal zero noise!" - Producer Peter Michael Escovedo
